The website for Little League International (LLI) includes information about their response to Coronavirus, answers to your most frequently asked questions, and tools to help your player keep their spirits - and skills - high. We suggest you review the material on LLI’s website to remain updated on all items, including information about summer tournament play.

What follows below are some of the questions we have been asked over the last month since our last update on April 13th.  If you have a question that is not included below, please email [email protected] for an answer (and we'll add it to this page for others to see).

What is the status of the 2020 spring season?

LLI is advising the suspension of all league activities until no earlier than May 11.  As you know, certain parks will be opened on May 20th, but not those meant for group activities or sports.  Despite this latest field closure information, it is our intention to bring everyone back to Trumbull Little League fields in the 2020 season if at all possible, as soon as it is deemed safe to play by the relevant public health authorities.

Is Trumbull Little League issuing refunds for the 2020 spring season at this time?

If the refund request is due to an economic hardship, we will process the refund immediately, no questions asked. Please send an email to email[email protected]   and your request will be handled with complete discretion. Please know that your player(s) will still be welcome to play in the 2020 season after you receive your refund, under our existing scholarship program.

However, if the refund request is not due to an economic hardship, we ask that you stay with us as we haven't given up on having a season at some point in 2020. We are obviously in a holding pattern right now, at least until May 20th. We will make every effort to get our kids back on our fields as soon as we can to give them a season in 2020. Once it's clear whether there will be a season in 2020, when it might start, etc., we'll develop a process for giving credit toward the 2020 season or future seasons or issuing refunds to those who are unable to play given the schedule changes.

Is it possible that the spring and summer seasons will be combined?

Once we have a concrete start date, all options will be considered to provide all of our Trumbull Little Leaguers a meaningful and memorable season. The one thing we know for sure right now is that our "spring" season won't look anything like we imagined on March 1. Other than that, and subject to additional guidance from LLI, we will be creative and flexible as soon as we know it's safe to be back on the field.

What is the status of the league events that will be postponed?

The short answer is, we don’t know if we will be able to run events such as the Opening Day Ceremony, Picture Day, Major League Day, and All-Star Games. Once we have a concrete understanding of what the 2020 season will look like and when it may start, we will decide which events, if any, can be rescheduled.

Is TLL considering playing on fields not owned by the Town of Trumbull after May 11th, if LLI does not extend that date but Trumbull fields and parks remain closed?

Not at this time. LLI strongly advises that local programs follow the guidance of their local authorities, evaluating school district closures, and local health department recommendations before resuming season play. Knowing that our town schools and town fields will be closed until at least May 20, we feel it would be irresponsible to ask our children and families to congregate in groups any earlier. Ultimately, TLL is a Trumbull organization and a member of the larger Trumbull community, so if the local health authority guidance is that it is not yet safe to gather in groups, our view is that we should not do so--either on fields not owned by the Town or on fields in other towns.

At this time are the Little League World Series and the Little League International Tournament events cancelled?

As you may have heard, for the first time in nearly 75 years, the 2020 LLWS has been canceled.  You can read more about the decision from LLIhere.
