TLL President Message - COVID-19

TLL President Message-COVID Safety Reminders
July 20, 2020

Greetings Players, Coaches and Parents,
We have received notification from the Town of Trumbull that non-compliance of pandemic safety measures will result in field permits being revoked and the season coming to an abrupt end.

The town has advised that not all sports groups are following the social distancing guidelines. The Recreation department has been contacted by both town staff and residents observing non-compliance of the safety protocols. We need to ensure our players, coaches, and parents are following all of the rules set forth by the State.
To ensure our compliance with State and our commitment to the town, please review the key messages I outlined in the Safe Return to play guidelines for face coverings and social distancing. These must be followed!!!
There is one change which is effective immediately:  Coaches are to wear face coverings/ masks when on the sideline (dugout area) at all times.

Face masks/Coverings
1. Athletes must wear a mask/face covering when entering and exiting the field and the park.  Face masks are encouraged to be worn when not engaged in active play. While engaged in the active play of sports or strenuous activities, athletes do not need to wear a face covering. *In other words, no masks when on the field, strongly recommended to wear mask off the field.
*We will revisit this policy in the next week if we find players are not maintaining 6ft social distance.
2. Coaches must wear face coverings as players arrive, depart and when 6’ of distance cannot be maintained.  If a coach comes within 6ft of a player on the field of play,  a mask must be put on.  If this is a challenge, then the rule of thumb should be to just keep your mask on.  Coaches are to wear face masks when on the sideline (dugout area) at all times.

3. Team Safety Officers must wear face masks at all times.
4. Spectators (All Including children 2 years and older) must wear face masks at all times, if 6ft distance can not be maintained.
5. Officials (Board members, umpires, press box staff) must wear face masks at all times, if 6ft distance can not be maintained.  When officials are entering and exiting the park, they must wear a face covering.

Social Distancing:
All players, coaches, volunteers, spectators, and independent contractors should practice social distancing of six feet wherever possible from individuals not residing within their household, especially in common areas
Post game team huddles
There will be no team huddles after games.  All players, coaches, and parents must leave the field at the conclusion of the game.
Parking Lots
There is to be no congregating in the parking lot after leaving the field following the game.  Families should proceed out of the park (per Town of Trumbull)
For everyone’s safety all must understand we have a zero tolerance policy.  We ask for everyone’s understanding and support  as we continue to navigate with these all these changes.
Our safety procedures are in place to mitigate against the potential spread of Covid-19 - we cannot let our guard down because we don’t want to go back to where we were in March/April.
Remember: Act responsibly.  Wear a mask.  Maintain social distancing.  Frequently wash your hands.  Cover your mouth and nose.  Cover coughs and sneezes.   Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
Thank you,
Greg M.McDonald
