PLEASE READ BEFORE REGISTERING FOR THE CHALLENGER DIVISION:
The Challenger Division® is Trumbull Little League’s adaptive baseball program for Trumbull youth. Any boy or girl age 4 to 18 with physical or intellectual challenges (or up to age 22 if still enrolled in school) may participate.
Games are played each Sunday at Unity Park in Trumbull, from Opening Weekend in late April thru Father’s Day Weekend in mid-June. Each player is assigned to one or more peer buddies, Trumbull youth - typically past little league players - who volunteer to assist, along with a dedicated group of adult volunteers.
Each Sunday, players who arrive are split into 2 teams. Each team gets 2 innings in the field, and 2 innings at bat, with all players coming to bat each inning. Batters can take as long as they need, and are thrown soft toss pitches, or can hit off a tee. Buddies run the bases, and take the field, alongside their player. At the end of the game, players and buddies receive free ice cream at the concession stand, compliments of Trumbull Little League.
All uniforms and equipment will be provided except for a baseball glove, which is optional. There is no cost for the program.
ONLY REGISTER YOUR CHILD FOR THE CHALLENGER DIVISION IF HE OR SHE HAS PHYSICAL OR INTELLECTUAL CHALLENGES, FOR EXAMPLE IF YOUR CHILD RECEIVES SPECIAL EDUCATION SERVICES AT SCHOOL.
