TRUMBULL LITTLE LEAGUE

Opening Day 2022

Trumbull Little League holds Opening Day Ceremony for Spring Baseball and Softball Season

Press Release

April 30, 2022

This past Saturday, Trumbull Little League hosted Opening Day at Unity Park to kick off the spring little league season.  It was a beautiful day with perfect weather, smiling kids, and lots of fun as most of the 62 baseball and softball teams had games throughout the day at Unity and Island Brook parks.

The TLL Board of Directors held an Opening Day ceremony on Field 1 in the morning, with players, coaches, and parents in attendance.  Emcee for the event was TLL Treasurer Kevin Chamberlain.  A ceremonial first pitch was thrown by 12 yr old players Brayden Showah to Rohan Kumar, to kick off the season.  Trumbull resident and professional singer Billy Genuario sang the national anthem, to a backdrop of a giant American flag flying above the 3rd base dugout courtesy of Long Hill Fire Department Ladder 204 and Trumbull Center firefighters.

First Selectman Vicki Tesoro, State Representative (and TLL Board Member) David Rutigliano, and Judge of Probate (and Reds 12u manager) T.R. Rowe addressed the youngsters present with encouraging words for a great season ahead, and special thanks to the volunteer coaches and parents.

TLL Co-Sponsorship director David Delibro recognized TLL’s sponsors for the tremendous support for our program, especially our “Headline Sponsor” Prime One Eleven, and major sponsors The Original Vazzy’s, Rayzor’s Edge Tree Service, Greensfee Athletics, Plasko’s Farm, Artistic Designs, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Lifetouch Sports, and Pepper’s Landscaping.

TLL Treasurer Kevin Chamberlain recognized the Town’s Parks and Recreation Department who maintain the ball fields in excellent condition, especially the Town’s flagship little league complex in Unity Park.   Special thanks to Parks Superintendent Dmitri Paris and his staff for all they do, and to the Town’s fields contractor Greensfee Athletics.  Trumbull Little League supplements these efforts by supporting field reconstruction and capital improvement costs in the parks each year.  Lastly, TLL thanked several local businesses and families donating to the construction of a new scoreboard this year at Unity Park Field 5, including Prime One Eleven, Rayzor’s Edge Tree Service, Pappas Electric, Bismark Construction, Eastern Metal Works, The Dobrydney Family, and DeStefano & Chamberlain, Inc.

Throughout the day, Lifetouch Sports was set up to take team photos of all the little leaguers.  The three Trumbull volunteer fire departments also had several firefighters on hand with an engine to recruit new members to their ranks.  Trumbull High School Freshmen and JV baseball teams ran a throwing and catching clinic in the afternoon for the 5 year old teeball teams, thanks to Head Coach Phil Pacelli.

A leader in Trumbull youth sports for over 60 years, Trumbull Little League’s baseball and softball programs host over 700 children each year.  More than just teaching young players how to throw, field and hit, TLL instills incredibly important values: competition, teamwork, pride, and hard work.  For more information, such as how to volunteer or become a sponsor, please go to www.trumbulllittleleague.com.
